Syracuse, NY –The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued SRC, Inc. a patent for its "Method and Apparatus for Detecting Breathing Radar Targets," enabling radar systems to identify stationary individuals by detecting subtle biological motions through walls and other obstructions. "This patent highlights SRC's continued innovation in radar technology, reinforcing our leadership in developing capabilities that address real-world, mission-critical needs," said Kevin Hair, president and CEO of SRC. The technology described by this patent is for a radar capable of locating people and objects indoors and behind barriers. Using Doppler frequency, the technology detects small movements, such as breathing or heartbeats, and distinguishes them from other movements as it scans a room or building. The inventor of this patent is John Dougherty, chief systems engineer at SRC. Dougherty has been named on eight additional patents. He received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from The University at Buffalo, a master's degree in electrical engineering and a master's in business administration from Syracuse University.
