Syracuse, NY – The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued SRC, Inc. a patent for “Folded Monopole Antenna for Use Within an Array,” a system to reduce field scattering and interference within a wide band, broad beam direction finding system. "This antenna system is a testament to our continued focus on innovation to support America and its allies," said Kevin Hair, president and CEO of SRC. The patent introduces a multiband, broad-beam antenna system composed of folded monopoles stacked vertically to eliminate blockage while maintaining a compact overall size. The design also reduces antenna height and increases bandwidth compared to similar dipoles. A key feature of the folded monopole is its addition of a nondriven — parasitic — arm which serves as a conduit for routing feed cables to upper antennas, minimizing interference. The inventor of this patent is Harvey Schuman, senior principal systems engineer at SRC. In addition to this patent, he is named on nine others. Schuman has authored numerous papers and presentations and is recognized as an SRC Fellow. In 2017, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Technology Alliance of Central New York.
