Supporting Our Communities

STEM Education

SRC has deep roots within academia, having started as a research and development arm of Syracuse University in 1957. Our commitment to education, particularly in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields, extends beyond just our current business needs. We believe that STEM education is vital to the future of our community and country, and we are proud to support several initiatives to build a strong pipeline of American students capable of tackling our nation’s future challenges.

CNY STEM

SRC works closely with Partners for Education & Business to improve STEM education and technical workforce development. Through the efforts of CNY STEM and the CNY Technology Sector, more than a dozen local business and education leaders collaborate to expand STEM programming, improve partnerships in schools, and streamline efforts in Central New York to build a strong, educated pipeline of future employees. CNY STEM is a central point of information for students, parents, educators and businesses to learn about STEM related programs and opportunities, such as events, grants and scholarships.

STEM Explorers

SRC helped start and continues to support the STEM Explorers program (formerly Engineering Ambassadors), which connects Syracuse University's College of Engineering and Computer Science together with middle schoolers in the Syracuse City School District for after-school STEM activities. Organized through the Shaw Center, SU students lead hands-on science projects to help middle schoolers get excited about STEM. The program aims to inspire a lasting interest in STEM early on, encouraging students to continue studying these subjects in high school and college.

This program is just as important to SU students as it is to the middle schoolers. Take a look at what one of the supervisors has to say:

CNY STEM Scholarship Program

The CNY STEM Scholarship Program supports CNY high school students who plan to pursue a college degree in a STEM-related field. As a participating company, SRC provides $5,000 in tuition support per year for four years ($20,000 total). As part of the program, SRC STEM Scholarship recipients are guaranteed an internship at SRC.

SRC STEM Days

We help to spark an interest in STEM and invite middle and high school students to visit SRC headquarters in Syracuse. Students have an opportunity to learn foundational STEM skills needed for success later in life through hands-on activities, games and interactions with STEM professionals.
