SRC Community Internship Program FAQs

How do I apply for an internship?

Before submitting an application, interested students are encouraged to read through all of the information on this website to fully understand the program. Then, fill out the application and submit it by March 1. You will be asked to provide some biographical information, a resume and answer some questions about your experiences and interests.

How are applicants matched with internships?

We gather information from organizations about positions and skills they need. Once all applications are received, SRC will match applicants with organizations based on student skill sets and identified organization needs. We will do our best to pair students’ skills with specific types of work (i.e. accounting, communications, etc.) or find opportunities that take into consideration a student’s background or interests. Note that the objective is not to match their major exactly since many non-profits need other positions filled. Students of all majors are encouraged to participate as every internship will provide opportunities to build important career and life skill sets. The overall objective is to fill gaps in resources for the organizations and provide community experience for the students.

Can students receive college credit for the internship?

That will depend on the rules at each student’s college or university. Students selected for the program will be responsible for coordinating with their school to receive credit. SRC and the participating non-profits will provide the students with any necessary documentation (i.e. timesheets, letters etc.) however, students are ultimately responsible for coordinating with their school to ensure all the information needed to give credit for the internship is gathered.

How long do the internships last?

Internships are at least eight weeks, and last for a maximum of 10 weeks. Students must work a minimum of 20 hours a week and can go up to 30 hours a week. Students will work with their supervisor to set a schedule that works for both parties. Students must reapply each year to continue in the program. When the internship has been completed, SRC will evaluate the interns based on their dealings with SRC and feedback from their supervisors to determine their eligibility to participate in the program again the next year.

Will there be any requirements outside of the specific internship responsibilities?

Students will be asked to attend an orientation program in late May, and a wrap-up program in August. Interns are required to communicate with SRC throughout the summer, providing timely responses to emails. Most importantly, SRC expects students to properly represent our brand: treating this internship like any other job by showing up on time and working hard.

I don’t work in an “SRC office,” is my child still eligible?

Yes. This program applies to all employees, whether you work at an SRC office, report to a customer site, or telework. However, all internships will be placed with an organization near an SRC office location (if you work remotely, this would be your home address).

My child isn’t coming home for the summer, can SRC provide an internship near my child's school (or other location)?

Unfortunately no. With limited resources available to coordinate, internships are restricted to areas where SRC has a business presence. Internships are identified through United Way chapters and community partners we already have relationships with. Opportunities are coordinated within 15 miles of an SRC office location, not home address (although in some cases this may be the same).

Who is eligible to apply for the program?

Students who have completed at least one semester of college are eligible for the Community Internship Program. In addition, they must be either a dependent or sibling of an SRC employee.
