Three SRC Community Interns Accept Permanent Positions with Non-Profit Organizations

October 14, 2021

Syracuse, NY –The 2021 SRC Community Internship Program led to three permanent positions with non-profit organizations.

Now approaching its 10th year, the Community Internship Program through SRC, Inc. matches college age dependents and siblings of company employees with United Way organizations in our communities and pays them to work with the non-profit for the summer. The program was designed to benefit college students by providing them with real-world experience and money for school while filling important resource gaps for non-profits. Since the program started, more than 200 students have worked around 75,000 hours providing assistance to dozens of organizations that are often short-staffed and lacking the capacity to hire.

"We are extremely proud of the impact this program has had over the last ten years," Kevin Hair, president and CEO of SRC said. "Not only does it continue to afford students these amazing internship and job opportunities, but we've also been able to help non-profits across the country better serve their clients and community partners."

Emma Bass, Michael Riehl, and Ivan Rodriguez – all multi-year participants of SRC's Community Internship Program – accepted either full or part-time positions with the organization at which they completed their 2021 summer internship.

In Syracuse, Bass will be working full-time as a case manager and job coach at the YWCA, while Riehl has accepted a part-time position with Center for Community Alternatives. Rodriguez will continue his work in San Antonio as logistics and facilities coordinator for Operation Homefront.

"The internship through SRC provides a great opportunity to connect with the community and network," Bass said of her experience and new role.  "I'm extremely grateful for the experiences I have had with each organization in the past three summers, as they have provided me with relevant experience, an opportunity to serve the community and now a new job!"
