Syracuse, NY, January 1, 2009 – Syracuse Research Corporation is pleased to announce the addition of Francis (Frank) Handler (photo), Ph.D. Physics, as Director of Chemical-Biological Defense Initiatives. In this new position, Handler will be responsible for increasing the company’s core strengths and capabilities in the chem-bio defense discipline. Handler comes to SRC with almost 30 years of comprehensive experience in the chemical-biological arena.
Most recently, Handler served as Chem-Bio Threat Agent Sciences Manager within the Defense Threat Reduction Agency Chemical and Biological Directorate (DTRA CB). In this position, he was responsible for technical, managerial, and staff functions required to plan, integrate, and execute research and technology development necessary to provide chemical and biological defense capabilities to warfighters. Handler has also served as Program Leader and Associate Division Leader at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (Livermore, CA).
Handler holds a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees in physics from the University of Texas at Austin; and a master’s degree in business administration from Rutgers University. He is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the American Physical Society. He is also a chairperson of Agent Fate Working Group under the Department of Defense Technical Transfer for Counter Proliferation.
